Tattooing that won't get you a shoeing

07 Oct 2011 03:49pm

Since the launch of our Tattoo Your Shoe pop up, we’ve witnessed customers unleash their creative side like never before. Finally, an easy answer to the ‘shall I / shan’t I?’ conundrum that started in our teens. If you haven’t quite got the bottle to tattoo your behind, then this is the next best thing.

Based in Selfridges’ Men’s Shoe Department, Floor 1, the parlour has seen the Oliver Sweeney brand double sales. Manager, Gavin Sleightholm, commented “the interest in the event has been incredible, with queues for shoes to be tattooed forming from the first day”.

And what have been the most interesting designs? Well, there’s been plenty of initials and dates; presumably to prevent customers forgetting their loved one’s birthdays, but so far the winner has to be the one we can’t show. Needless to say our female tattooist blushed.

The pop up parlour will be running at Selfridges until 16th October 2011. Get there quick if you want a tattoo that won’t be so bad if you change your mind.

Budi says: I've personally alawys really liked the look of the Asics Kayano 14s, especially the silver with turquoise details, but now there's also a lilac with plum accents. If only they were right for me, I'd be sold! And RW, you should rename the contest, to vote for the ugliest running shoes. You guys sure picked those out for us! 20 May 2012 11:57am
Oliver Sweeney says: Hello James, Thanks, we thought so! It behaves very similarly to skin tattoos - it will fade, but it is permanent. it performs much better if cared for (with beeswax etc), and some colours work better than others, the best is dark inks on tan shoes of course. we've got lots of designs but most people are making requests. Our Tattooist in Chief is a pretty talented artist it would appear! 20 Oct 2011 01:28pm
James says: Great idea! How long does the ink stay in the shoe? Is it actually permanent? I'd love this done on a pair of my Sweeney's! Would be great to see a gallery of more designs if you've got them! James @ www.robinsonsofbawtry.com Sweeney Stockist in Bawtry, South Yorkshire. 20 Oct 2011 10:16am
