"When you grow up, try and do something you love"
Those wise words, said to me by Father when I was a mere slip of a boy, have always stayed with me. I’m not sure I’ve ever really grown up, but I am lucky enough to be doing something I truly love: designing and making shoes.
To be fair, shoemaking is in my blood. My Father and Grandfather were both shoemakers and I’ve been in the business for over 30 years.
As Cobbler-in-Chief at Oliver Sweeney, I’m involved in and obsessed by every part of the shoemaking process, from sourcing the finest leathers to working closely with our Italian, family run factory in the Marche region.
As a company, we believe in traditional craftsmanship but we love to bend the rules. It gives our shoes a unique and original British twist each time, so there’s always an element of surprise for our customers.
For me, the devil is in the detail and I intend to carry on challenging, improving, refining and obsessing over shoes…until I’m a grown up at least.
