Yak Wool Tangola
We’ve partnered with Tangola – specialists in Yak down with over 35 years of experience – to enhance our premium collection of knitwear. Growing from a small workshop in Wenling, Tangola were one of the first brands to commercialise this rare natural fibre, and their innovative enterprise now spans livestock farming, fibre processing, yarn spinning, and garment manufacturing. But what is it that makes Yak wool so special? Let’s get into it:
Fabric Features
Sourced from the cold, high-altitude plateaus of Mongolia and the Himalayas – the yaks here thrive in these conditions thanks to their fine, soft undercoat, which they naturally molt every spring.
Lightweight yet highly insulating, it’s naturally breathable and moisture-wicking, and free from lanolin - making it a great hypoallergenic option for winter layering.
It is renowned as a durable, resilient material that can retain its shape over time and is more resistant to pilling than cashmere.
Sustainability
Tangola have a partnership with over 35,000 herder families across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, built on decades of mutual trust and fair trade. The wool is collected by hand-combing during the natural molt cycle, ensuring no harm caused to the herd.
The yaks enjoy semi-wild grazing and graze on just the tops of grass without damaging the root structures, meaning the pastures can regenerate without long-term damage.
Due to these sustainable practices and with limited global production, yak wool as a material maintains exclusivity.
